A SEAT AT THE TABLE STARTS HERE
Meet Fifty-six
Open trump, duplicated cards, and a conversation in bids.
Rules preview. The pack and scoring bands are documented; the full auction, redouble default and match-payment transitions remain under review.
01. Double cards, not double the teams
Four or six players use two copies of J, 9, A, 10, K and Q in each suit: 48 cards. Eight players also add two copies of 8 and 7 in each suit: 64 cards. There are always two alternating teams. The pack is never 72 cards.
02. Trump is spoken, not hidden
The opening minimum is 28. In the documented open-trump game, a bid names a suit or a no-trump contract; there is no concealed card. Doubling and redoubling change the game-point multiplier. A concealed-trump version must be named as a house variant.
03. KTC and ITC are not the same language
KTC describes straight bids from 28 to 56, correction bids rather than plus bids, and NS conventions. ITC adds plus, plus-X, reverse and reverse-plus forms, and a separate NT form. The complete legality and pass-closure policy still need to be finalised.
The meaning a bid suggests to a partner is guidance, not proof of the cards held. Convention hints must never reveal private hands or enforce an inferred hand pattern.
04. Four scoring bands
The documented common bands are 28–39 (+1/−2), 40–47 (+2/−3), 48–55 (+3/−4), and exactly 56 (+4/−5). Double is ×2; groups use redouble ×3 or ×4, so its default must be explicit. Teams commonly begin with 12 tables; precise termination and payment policy are still pending.
