How to play Cheat
A straight face, an ascending rank, and one well-timed challenge.
This guide describes the ascending-rank, first-finisher format. Check the live catalogue for runtime availability.
01. Deal and get ready
Use one standard pack for two to six players, and two packs for seven to ten. Deal every card; uneven hands are fine. There are no teams and suits do not matter. Play goes clockwise.
02. Make a claim
The required rank moves A, 2, 3, …, 10, J, Q, K, then back to A after every turn. Place one or more cards face down and claim that they all have the required rank. You cannot pass. The claim count must match the number of cards played in this format.
03. Believe it, or call Cheat
Any other player may challenge during the four-second server-timed window. The first accepted challenge is resolved. The cards from the latest play are shown to everyone. If every card matches, the challenger takes the whole pile. If any card does not match, the player who made the claim takes it.
Play continues from the player after the claimant. The required rank keeps advancing; a challenge does not reset it.
04. A useful little example
The rank is seven. You play two cards and say “two sevens”. If a challenger reveals 7♣ and 7♥, they collect the pile. If the cards are 7♣ and K♥, you collect it. Suits have no effect.
05. Your last card still has to survive
The first player to empty their hand and survive the final challenge window wins. An empty hand does not win immediately if its last claim can still be challenged. A full finishing-order match is a separate variant, not this default.
